A turning point in Carlo Orsi's work
From October 7 to November 18, 2011, the Raffaella De Chirico Art Gallery in Turin is hosting No Photoshop. Curated by Federico Sardella, the exhibition includes over forty works by Carlo Orsi, displayed in the gallery in an arrangement that, by focusing on individual groups of works and series of shots, provides an overview of his creative journey, highlighting moments of continuity and points of rupture.
The title of the exhibition defines a group of recent photographs, a series of 18 color images entitled No Photoshop, with which Orsi reflects on the authenticity of the photographic image at a time when digital photo editing is becoming widespread: these are digital prints of unpublished shots, obtained from the acquisition of naturally deteriorated or moldy films. The observer is thus confronted with images that, while appearing to be the result of an unknown technology and stimulating the search for hidden meanings, are simply faithful prints from film: authentic images, difficult to categorize, whose only secret is their absolute lack of manipulation.
The exhibition is accompanied by the publication of a catalog containing the images from No Photoshop and an interview with Orsi by Sardella.
